Who can search for a domain name (.no)? Anyone searching for a domain name must represent or belong to an organisation that is registered in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities in Norway. Generally you will be asked to give an organisation number you should have received when you registered in Brønnøysundregisteret. The address for the organisation must be in Norway or Svalbard. Private persons cannot register a domain name directly under .no. Private persons should, when they want their own domain name, register the domain name under the category domain priv.no, which is administrated by EUnet Norge. What can you apply for? Each subscriber may have up to 20 domain names directly under .no. The subscriber may also register domain names using geographically domains or a category domain. Some names are reserved and/or not possible to register. Place names, names of towns and council names are reserved for further expansions of the geographically tree. |
Number of letters and numbers in a domain name:
You cannot register a domain name with only one letter.
A domain name can include up to 63 letters/numbers
A domain name can only consist of letters from a to å (this is for addresses ending with .no-, .com- and .net – all other domain names can consist of letters from a to z), and numbers from 0 till 9 and a hyphen (“-“).
The first and the last sign in the domain name should either be a symbol or a number.
A domain name consisting only of numbers will not be registered.
Rules for registering a foreign domain name
By registering domains ending with .com, .net, .org, .as, .dk and .nu there is no name policy. You can register whatever you want as long as the name is free. The domain can only consist of letters from a to z, numbers from 0 till 9 and a hyphen (-).
